The Otago Peninsula is one of the most picturesque and natural regions on the South Island of New Zealand. It lies to the east of Dunedin and juts out into the Pacific Ocean. The peninsula is known for its breathtaking scenery, abundant wildlife and historic sites.

Interesting facts about the Otago Peninsula:
Location and geography:

The Otago Peninsula stretches about 20 kilometres east of Dunedin and is separated from the mainland by Otago Harbour.

The landscape is characterised by rolling hills, steep cliffs, secluded beaches and lush farmland.
Wildlife:

The peninsula is a paradise for animal lovers and is home to a variety of native and marine species.

Royal Albatrosses: The only mainland breeding colony of these majestic birds is located at Taiaroa Head. Visitors can visit the Royal Albatross Centre to learn more about these birds and observe them in the wild.

Yellow-eyed Penguins: These rare penguins can be spotted at Penguin Place or Sandfly Bay.

New Zealand fur seals (New Zealand fur seals) and New Zealand sea lions (New Zealand sea lions): These marine mammals are often seen on the peninsula's beaches and rocks.

Dolphins: The waters around the peninsula are home to Hector's dolphins, the smallest and rarest marine dolphins in the world.

Attractions and activities:

Taiaroa Head: A well-known nature reserve and home to royal albatrosses. The Royal Albatross Centre offers informative tours and exhibitions.

Penguin Place: A private sanctuary dedicated to the conservation of yellow-eyed penguins. Guided tours offer the opportunity to see these rare penguins up close.

Larnach Castle: New Zealand's only castle, located on a hill overlooking the peninsula. It offers historical tours, beautiful gardens and marvellous views.
